About us
How NSDE started
NSDE was set up in response to one specific situation. In 2022, Afghan girls were shut out of school after the sixth grade. People who had spent their working lives in education and development decided that watching it happen was not enough.
While NSDE’s primary focus is on Afghanistan, our work is not limited within a single country. NSDE now focuses on education for girls and marginalised communities more broadly, but the principle has stayed the same. Education is a right, not a privilege, and the people who get blocked from it are usually the people who need it most.

Our mission
Our work sits within the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education. Education does not stand alone. When girls finish school, the impact reaches into health, household income, and the next generation.
Our mission
We promote and advocate for education as a fundamental human right, with a particular focus on girls and marginalised communities. We do this by running programmes that get students into classrooms, online or in person, by supporting them once they are studying, and by speaking up about access to education as a basic human right.

Our Team
NSDE runs on volunteers. Teachers, curriculum developers, mentors, and the team that keeps the foundation organised work without pay. People come from many countries and many professions. What everyone shares is the conviction that no girl should be cut off from learning.

SDGs and our commitment
All of our programmes are tied to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a primary focus on Goal 4: Quality Education.
Education is one of the goals that pulls others along with it. A girl who finishes school is more likely to earn a fair income, raise healthy children, and have a say in her community. We choose our projects with that ripple effect in mind.

FAQ
What is the Vision of NSDE?
We aim to help 10 000 young people worldwide to achieve quality, inclusive and sustainable education by 2030.
Why is support needed?
Offering education-focused programmes requires not only financial resources, which are one of the most important elements for any NGO to achieve meaningful impact, but also knowledge and expertise, a wide network to reach out to marginalised communities worldwide, time and effort from hundreds of volunteers, and visibility to share our cause and work with the world and get one step closer to a world where the right to education is enjoyed by every single human being.
If you or anyone in your network can offer support in any of these areas, please reach out to us!
